Jesus came to us in the New Testament with a New Commandment: YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND (INTELLECT). Matthew 22:37 - 40
Then Jesus came and spoke to them (giving them THE GREAT COMMISSION) saying, "All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on Earth. Go ye therefore and Make Disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS that I have COMMANDED you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18 - 20
My friends, the Great Commission sums up the entire mission or purpose of the Bible from Genesis 12 through to Revelation. The Great Commission, in other words, is the action taken for the fulfillment of the Great New Command - love your God with all and love your neighbor as yourself.
Jesus Himself demonstrated His devotion to the Father and HIS WILL through the cross at Calvary. It was also through Calvary that Jesus had ALL AUTHORITY given to Him. It was by this AUTHORITY that Jesus commissioned His people to do the work of the KINGDOM; to preach the Gospel and make disciples.
This was the central purpose of His ministry. It must be ours too.
